In the wake of the 2012 school shootings in Newtown, CT, members of Sō Percussion teamed up with theater artist Ain Gordon, and choreographer Emily Johnson to investigate the history of American gun manufacturing and the impetus for the “right to bear arms.” A Gun Show weaves music, text, and movement to explore guns and the culture they create in this stunning new work.
No word exactly sums up what this performance is – opera may come the closest. The audience is invited to reflect and commune, as we have already found that guns embody a peculiarly American experience. It is strange that we should all be so deeply affected by their presence.
