Sō Percussion makes their debut at Adelphi University in our New Music series with a concert of works written in the 21st century for a wide array of percussion.
Evident on this program is the ensemble’s desire to create and present new collaborative works and educational initiatives to engage adventurous audiences and students. Sō Percussion offers ‘gone’ (2018) by Puerto Rican-born composer and multi-instrumentalist Angélica Negrón Melodic, ‘Concept III’ (2019) for Trinidadian steel pans by Kendall K. Williams, ‘the diamond in the square’ (2019) by Suzanne Farrin, in which the performers explore the interior world of the piano, ‘Individuate’ (2021) by interdisciplinary artist and Brooklynite Darian Donovan Thomas, ‘Taxidermy’ (2012) by the youngest recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, Caroline Shaw, and movements from ‘Amid the Noise’ (2006) by Sō Percussion founding member Jason Treuting. Sō Percussion’s concert will be broadcast live from the Concert Hall of Adelphi Performing Arts Center.
