Sō Percussion Summer Institute (SōSI) – Operations Manager
Seasonal – Part Time

Job Description:

The Sō Percussion Summer Institute (SōSI) is an intensive two-week chamber music seminar for college-age percussionists and composers. The four members of Sō Percussion serve as faculty in rehearsal, performance, and discussion of contemporary music.

As the SōSI Operations Manager you are expected to support the SōSI team with guidance from Yumi Tamashiro, Sō Percussion Managing Director and SōSI Program Coordinator. You will be interfacing on a regular basis with Princeton University’s Summer Coordinator.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinate reviewing of application materials
  • Update all acceptance forms
  • Coordinate Princeton Composers writing for SōSI
  • Coordinate Princeton faculty members and guests for talks (with possibility of guest performances)
  • Acting as liaison to guest artists and their representatives, including arranging travel and accommodations
  • Preparing and submitting forms and permits for venues
  • Assist Sō Percussion in finalizing repertoire for concerts
  • Assign parts for pieces with Program Coordinator
  • Reserve all concert dates, venues, and rehearsal rooms
  • Build the daily schedule for Percussion and Composition students (with the assistance of SōSI Composition Director)
  • Organize gear needed for SōSI
  • Organize daily moves between activities
  • Arrange housing accommodations for faculty members and students
  • Arrange for all SōSI sponsorship materials
  • Work with our designer to gather/print design materials for SōSI
  • Book transportation of gear and helpers to move gear to and from Brooklyn
  • Book videographer for live concert documentation
  • Updating and distributing daily schedules to faculty and participants
  • Hire interns for the duration of SōSI
  • Collecting tuition fees and insurance forms from participants
  • Delegate duties as needed to Production Assistant and SōSI interns

Below is a typical day at SōSI:

8am-9am Personal practice time
9am-12pm Rehearsal
12pm-1pm Guest artist talk
1pm-2pm Lunch
2pm-5pm Rehearsal
5pm-6pm Guest Artist talk
6pm-7pm Dinner
7pm-10pm Other various activities (rehearsal, performance, guest talk, listening session, etc.)
10pm-11:30pm Personal practice time as needed

Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent public-facing skills, comfortable interfacing with large groups
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, solve problems, and collaborate with staff at all levels
  • Basic computer skills required: internet literacy, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite
  • Ability to lift and/or move 50lbs
  • Be at the Sō Percussion office to meet and work with the SōSI team twice a week
  • We will require you to be in town two weeks prior to SōSI as the work load is heavier and we will need you to come into the office more often than usual

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience successfully managing and administering festival programs
