We are thrilled to travel to West Africa with Olivier Tarpaga, to play this piece, and to learn from master musicians at the In-Out Dance Festival in Bobo-Dioulasso, Le festival CONNEXION in Benin, and the Dialogue de Corps Festival in Ouagadougou.
Jason Treuting explains our excitement about this trip: I am super pumped to share what we do with an audience so attuned to a tradition of percussion music. And I am eager to be a student again myself, and learn from other drummers and musicians in Burkina Faso! I may be most excited to experience other groups playing, and – having played with many members of Olivier’s band when they visited Princeton – I know we will be able to find moments to play and learn with them. It’s going to be awesome!
