
Jacky
Jacky Xu (he/him/his) is a dedicated and passionate percussionist currently studying at NYU under Jonathan Haas and many other professors. Known for his collaborative spirit, he actively collaborates with fellow musicians to craft impactful and meaningful performances, demonstrating both leadership and followership abilities.
Jacky’s performance portfolio boasts esteemed venues such as Carnegie Hall, DiMenna Center, United Palace, and Flushing Town Hall in New York, he also performs in Beijing and Shanghai, China, to the artistic depths of Saint Petersburg, Russia, where he achieved 1st Place in the XXII (22nd) International Creative Festival Competition and Youngest Artist Prize at the Hollywood Angel Cup 2015 in Los Angeles.
In addition to his performance endeavors, Jacky currently serves as the NA General Manager at Lucky Bell Music, a Teaching Artist at Kirin Art Center, a proud member of the China Original Percussion Project Commissioning Consortium, contributing to the evolution of percussion music on an international scale.
Jacky’s journey in percussion has been enriched by experiences working and helping other musicians such as serving as a percussion crew member at the Aspen Music Festival and School. He has a passion for timpani that extends far beyond performance; it delves into the inner workings of these majestic instruments. At the Broadway Theatre, he was given the rare opportunity to fully disassemble and reassemble the Ludwig Standard Series timpani for The Great Gatsby. His careful attention to detail ensured that each part was accurately calibrated, resulting in instruments that were finely tuned and ready to shine onstage.
